Electrical/Automation Technician
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor or Engineering Manager
 
Summary:
Installs, repairs and builds electrical systems, electrical and electronic components, and elector-mechanical devices of industrial machinery and equipment.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
  • Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
  • Tests machinery to diagnose malfunctions, identify faulty components, specify replacements and recommend components to order after researching most cost effective solutions.
  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches, and motors, printed circuit boards, and position sensing devices.
  • Programs programmable logic controllers to control automated machinery.  Can make modifications to existing programs.
  • Programs and troubleshoots industrial robots,
  • Can read electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematic diagrams.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Associates degree (AS) from two-year college or university
  • Or four years related experience and/or training
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 Language Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of peers, management or other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Firm grasp of mathematical skills where they apply to electrical, mechanical and electro-mechanical systems and components.
Technical Skills/Knowledge:
Familiar with or direct experience with:
  • PLC controllers
  • OSHA standards relating to electrical and electronic components
  • NFPA/NEC standards for industrial and commercial installations
  • Various motion control components including hydraulic and pneumatic actuators, linear drives, rotary actuators, solenoids, and other actuators.
  • Various sensing devices such as positioning detectors, laser detection devices, and light emitting detection devices.
  • Knowledge of safely working with various voltage systems from 5V up to 480V systems.
  • Understanding of various CNC controllers (FANUC, Mazak, Okuma)
  • Understanding of various manufacturing machines
